Users on Facebook and Windows Live Messenger have talked to each other in 250 million conversations that have lasted longer than 1.5 billion minutes since Windows Live Essentials 2011 launched earlier this fall.
"In the last few updates, we have made a number of changes across Windows Live that made it both more valuable to connect Facebook to Windows Live, and easier for you to do this," Dharhmesh Mehta, Microsoft's director for Windows Live product management, wrote in a blog post. "We're still early in the release, but to date, over 10 million people have connected their Facebook accounts with Windows Live."
According to AppData's Facebook App Leaderboard, Windows Live Messenger is the number two app on the social-networking site as of Thursday. However, a larger number of users are on FarmVille with more than 16 million people tending to their virtual crops. But Windows Live's app presence is still strong with nearly 9.2 million on the leaderboard.
According to Mehta, Facebook isn't the only company that is partnering with Windows Live. More than 1.6 million users have connected to YouTube, and at least 700,000 have connected with MySpace. Additionally, there are more than 75 companies that have similar connectivity features with Windows Live.
Windows Live helps users stay connected across all of their devices. It is deeply integrated with Windows Phone 7, and Microsoft started selling the first three devices on this platform on Monday. Windows Live is also available on other devices, including BlackBerrys, iPhones, and Nokia phones.
